Medicare - The Facts

Medicare Overview
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals 65 or older, or younger individuals with disabilities. It includes several parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice care and some home health services; Part B (Medical Insurance) covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient treatment, preventative services, and medical supplies; Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage) covers the cost of prescription drugs.

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)
Medicare Supplemental Insurance is designed to fill the gaps in Original Medicare coverage. While Medicare Parts A and B provide essential health services, they don't cover everything. Medicare Supplement policies help pay for out-of-pocket costs like deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, ensuring you have broader protection against medical expenses. These plans are also standardized across insurance companies, ensuring consistent benefits no matter which provider you choose.

Enrollment Window
When you are turning 65, you will get a one-time 6 month “Medigap Open Enrollment” period. After that time expires, you may not be able to enroll or the cost will be higher. Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period is a one-time enrollment. It does not repeat every year like your Medicare Annual Enrollment period.
